Great drill/driver

Review Date: May 11, 2004
Reviewer: Sammy G. Duncan, raleigh, nc
I have had this drill for about six months and am very happy with it. I am a homeowner so I can't speak as to how this drill would function during all day use. For projects around my house it has plenty of power although, like every other cordless tool I have used, it needs a little more time drilling/driving through hard wood. If I want to drill through something thick and tough, I used a beefier corded drill. So far, I have not noticed any of the battery life problems discussed by other reviewers.

I picked up a set of the Dewalt hex shank bits and have not noticed any slippage. The only time I have had a complaint with the drill was while using a hole saw to install locksets in two doors. Of the four holes, the bit slipped out of the chuck two times. Once I reinserted the hole saw it went right on through the door. I don't know if I didn't get the chuck tight enough or if the chuck just prefers the hex shank bits.

All in all a great drill. I can't imagine ever installing curtain rods, assembling bookcases, etc. with a corded drill and/or screwdriver again!

Excellent drill

I bought this drill from ebay by mistake. I was skeptical about the 759 being Dewalt's "compact" drill.

After using this drill for about 2 months,I would say that this drill can do just about everything that the XRP can (I have one)
I really like the keyless single sleeve chuck,it holds bits tight. The drill is a bit lighter than my XRP (988). Dewalt claims the 759 weight is 5.2lb, but it is heavier with the XRP
battery.

The 759 is a bit quieter than the 988 and its 2 speed transmission does not jam like the 3 speed XRP.

Powerwise I doubt if you will notice much difference between the 759 and the XRP series.

The only thing lacking with the 759 is a sidehandle (The XRP drills have one of the best sidehandles)

Overall:Thumbs up!
BEST DRILL I HAVE EVER PURCHASED

Reviewer: HELLSPAWN, NEW YORK
I DO CONSTRUCTION FOR A LIVING AND I PURCHASED THE DEWALT 18V DC759KA BECAUSE I NEEDED A MORE POWERFUL DRILL THAN WHAT I WAS USING. THIS DRILL IS MORE THAN POWERFUL ENOUGH FOR BOTH THE EVERDAY CONSUMER AND FOR CONTRACTOR USE. BEING A CONTRACTOR SOME OF MY TOOLS CAN GET PRETTY BEAT UP AND THIS DEWALT DRILL IS NO EXCEPTION. MY DC759KA HAS BEEN THROUGH HELL AND BACK AND STILL RUNS LIKE A CHAMP. IN FACT I WAS SO IMPRESSED THAT THIS DRILL HELD UP SO WELL TO THE ABUSE I PUT IT THROUGH THAT I PURCHASED A SECOND ONE FOR MY PERSONAL USE AT HOME. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS DRILL TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A POWERFUL RELIABLE DRILL.
Another terrific DeWalt tool!

Review Date: November 11, 2007
Reviewer: Skip Thomsen, Hilo, HI United States
I'm a construction professional and since I already have a shop full of DeWalt 18V cordless tools, I bought this one in spite of the negative reviews, mostly about bad chucks. I did check the "made-in" label to make sure they had not switched to China. They had not. This tool, like all the rest of mine, was made in Mexico, which at first was a surprise to me, but then over the years of using/abusing these bullet-proof tools, I forgot about that concern.

Anyway, this drill works perfectly and the chuck concentricity is dead-on. I'd guess that those who got wobbly chucks were the unfortunate recipients of a bad batch, and it surprises me that DeWalt is getting a reputation for shoddy support. NO excuse for that, but it seems to be more and more common what with everybody outsourcing to India or some other place where the "support" people have a lot of trouble with the English language.

Also, if you get a bad tool right out of the box from a walk-in store, I know of no store that won't take it back if you bring it right back to them. I guess that's one issue with Internet purchases. BTW, I got mine from Ace Hardware for $149, in the case, with two batteries and a charger. Whoopee, now I have a dozen batteries and half a dozen chargers.

(And I do buy a lot of stuff from Amazon . . . I live in Hawaii and we kind of have to buy a lot of stuff online. I specifically bought this tool from a walk-in store because of the negative reviews.)
Big bang for your buck

When I "moved up" from an 8.4V Black and Decker to a 12V Craftsman, I thought I had arrived in life. Due to some incompetence at the Orange Box, I picked up a brand new 759KA for $89 (read it and weep!). It is incredible--loads of power, long lasting and quick charging batteries, easy to hold for long periods of time, one hand chuck, good feel in the hand, and dual speed range (IMHO) is just right. It was my first DeWalt tool, and I have since picked up a 16 ga finish nailer that is equally great. FYI: my old B&D still works well (battery is phenomenal; go figure) and my Craftsman did well but the batteries died at the 13 month mark.

You won't be unhappy with this tool, and unless you need a bulkier and heavier 18V drill, this is up to anything. The batteries are not the "XRP" designation but I can't see any room for improvement with the "plain" DeWalt 18V batteries.
Love the Drill, Dislike the Customer Service

Review Date: January 23, 2007
Reviewer: Ed Abbey,
I ordered the 18 volt version DC759KA and was shipped the 14.4 volt version DC728KA instead. I then spent a half hour online trying to figure out how to return it to Amazon and yet another half hour looking for a way to print out a prepaid return label which I have yet to find. Meanwhile the correct drill is being sent and I'm supposed to leave the wrong one outside for the UPS to pick up sometime in the next three days, no exact day specified. I want to leave seller feedback but I am not even given that option.

Overall, I love this drill and have used a borrowed one for several months. Can't wait to get my own one, again. Hopefully they don't screw up the order twice in a row.

Product Description

We'd be hard-pressed to name another drill that packs as much power yet weighs as little as this one does. When you pick it up, it's so lightweight that you can't imagine it can tackle much, but just draw back the trigger and be amazed.

This 14-volt two-speed drill/driver has a two-piece magnet motor and a 22-position clutch that together put an impressive 300 inch-pounds of torque in your hand so you can effortlessly drive screws into the hardest woods. The two-speed transmission is controlled with a one-touch button on top of the tool body, giving you the choice of 0 to 400 or 0 to 1,200 rpm, and operations are smooth at either speed. The 3/8-inch chuck is keyless, of course, for super-easy bit changes, and the jaws grab and hold the bit securely with zero runout.

We're always on the lookout for easy battery changes, and this one qualifies, because it's easy to disengage and slides off without a struggle. It's a good choice for smaller hands, and not just for the easy battery removal: the whole drill weighs just 4 pounds and measures up at not quite 8 inches long. The grip is extremely comfortable and again, great for smaller hands. Balance is perfect, and we can imagine working overhead for hours with this drill without strain. It maneuvers perfectly into the tightest spots, places that beefy 18-volters just can't go.

The belt hook is a nice feature, with five angles to choose from: 0, 20, 40, 60 and 80 degrees. We like the bit set that comes with this package, too, and have found Hitachi bits to be reliable and durable over the long run. The flashlight also is a nice addition, and it runs off the same battery as the drill. The beam is powerful and the light stands independently, and you can't ask for more than that. Finally, Hitachi's got one of the best warranties, with 5-year coverage. This is a set you won't regret buying.

The Hitachi Story
Hitachi was founded in 1910 as an electrical machinery repair shop by Japanese entrepreneur Namihei Odaira. Since then, Hitachi has grown into a global company operating in industries ranging from tools to computing. The company's flagship office remains in Japan, but it has offices all over the world.

Hitachi's history in the power tools business really got started in 1948 with the launch of Hitachi Koki, an electric power tool manufacturing unit designed to meet Hitachi's growing industrial needs. Hitachi Koki pushed the envelope few key areas, most notably high-speed motor, precision machining, and electronic control technologies. In 1973, Hitachi Koki began exporting tools to markets worldwide.

Hitachi Koki's goal from the start was to eventually produce and sell all of its products locally. In 1980, it launched Hitachi Power Tools U.S.A to market tools in the United States (it didn't start producing tools in the U.S. until 1994). During the 80s, Hitachi Power Tools U.S.A. built its reputation for quality on the success of its pneumatic framing nailer and sliding compound miter saws. At the same time, it poured resources into research and development in other areas, leading it to a number of firsts power tool technology. Hitachi pioneered the sliding compound miter saw, cordless impact driver, collated automatic screw driver, pneumatic concrete nailer, cordless screw driver, metal stud cutter, portable rebar cutter/bender, 10-minute rapid charger, 2.0, 2.2, and 2.4 Ah Ni-Cad batteries, 3.0 Ni-MH batteries, and the use of rare earth magnet motors in cordless tools.

Hitachi Power Tools U.S.A. was renamed Hitachi Koki U.S.A. in 1994 to denote the addition of manufacturing to the United States. Today, it sells more than 1000 models of electric power tools, focusing on compact/high out-put motor technology. The company has obtained recognition under the ISO 9000 series international standards for quality assurance. Hitachi Koki also received ISO 14001 certification for environmentally sound management.

The Usefullness Of Air Compressor Tools

mini air compressors

Electric tools are quickly becoming a thing of the past. Air compressor tools are becoming the new trend. Affordability is the biggest reason. Convenience is another. Compressor tools are much lighter than electric tools. They can generate more torque and more revolutions per minute. This makes it much more efficient to use air tools than it does to use electric ones.

When properly maintained, compressor tools are long-lasting, and somewhat indestructible. They have very few moving parts, so maintenance is usually limited to oiling, and they do not tend to overheat. Most of the tools attach to the air line with an accessory called a quick coupler, making changes very simple and very fast. There are many different sizes, ranging from mini air compressors, to truck air compressors, to industrial sized air compressors. There are also different types of air compressors, including the electric air compressor, the gas air compressor, and the rotary screw air compressor.

Air compressor tools come in many different forms. The impact wrench and the inflation kit are the most popular. The impact wrench, sometimes confused with the air ratchet wrench, is used to tighten or release bolts and add torque. It is used mainly in construction settings and automotive shops. Blow guns pump air at high pressure and are good for cleaning hard to reach areas that are saturated with grease, dust and dirt. When installing a new roof or hanging drywall, air nailers can save you a lot of time. The air sander is used in automotive painting work.

Painting can be done quickly and efficiently with the air spray gun. Old rust or paint can be removed with the sandblaster, which can also be converted to a power washer. Air chisels or hammers are good for breaking up concrete and masonry. Drilling can be done easily on any surface with the air drill. Changing the attachments is so easy and only needing one power source is so convenient that the purchase of an air compressor and air compressor tools is a wise investment.

Just about everyone likes the first snow fall of the season.

Almost everyone rejoices at the first snow of the season. As winter wears on all the shoveling begins to get tiresome. The job of clearing snow from your driveway and sidewalk can be much easier if you have a snow blower. There will be a few things to consider when determining which model will do what you need.

The two main types are single stage and two stage snow blowers. Single stage models will weigh less and require less maintenance. They use an auger made from metal and rubber which spins to scoop up the snow and throw it off the path. The biggest drawback of using a single stage snow blower is that a lot of pollution is created by its two stroke engine. They do not have as much power as a two stage snow blowers. They are not recommended for areas which regularly get more than six inches of snow at a time or snow that is wet and heavy.

Two stage snowblowers are typically more expensive and weigh more than a single stage model. Two stage snow blowers clear snow by using a slow turning metal auger that lifts the snow, pulls it through an impeller and then throws is out of the way using a discharge chute. They are great for deeper snow as well as heavy snow. They have a four cycle engine which is less polluting than a two cycle type engine used by single stage snowblowers. Once you figure out which type of snow blower is best for you you will then need to determine how wide a clearing path you want. When snow blowers have a wider clearing path they will take up more room in your garage.
